This is a strange post for the start of summer but as a fashion designer I have to work 6 months ahead in order to have a range ready in time. So I have been researching and I am just loving the fashion trends for winter 2011. Here are 5 fashion trends that I think will be in for winter 2011 in South Africa.
Update!
To celebrate the winter weather we have been having we are giving away Tashkaya clothing to the value of R2000. This time we have tried to use a simpler process, all you need to enter is a Facebook account (are there still people who own a computer who don’t have one?). Just click on the “join giveaway now” button below, go on, you know you want to!
This competition is runs until the end of July 2011 and is open to all South African residents. Please remember clothes come in Small, Medium and Large and will be shipped for free anywhere in South Africa.
1. Skinny belts
They can be worn in almost any way and most of the time they are made up in leather. The best belts are the ones you find at second hand stores or ones that are passed down to you by your mom or your grandmother. They are always delicately thin.
You can double them up in your waist or wear them low on the hips for a more slouchy look. They look great worn over winter knits, wraps, oversized shirts, dresses and tees.
They are a must have for this winter and they are a great accessory to your outfit.
Here is a lovely plaited skinny belt found at Rhubarb Room
2. Leopard print
Animal prints never really seem to go out during the winter months. They are usually seen in shoes, handbags, scarves and tops.
For this winter the leopard print is a big fashion trend and is seen in many of the designers collections, whether it be coats, jackets, scarves, shoes, dresses, skirts, shorts, handbags or belts.
I like the print on a beautiful soft silk scarf to add to a plain black dress or black pants and a black top.
Here is a picture of a leopard print scarf found at Topshop
For those who love animal print designs check out this cool coat from Zara
3. The Peg-leg trouser
The peg-leg trouser doesn’t look like a very flattering and feminine style but don’t be fooled as these pants can look really sexy paired with heels or ankle boots a sheer blouse or tight vest and a fitted blazer. For a more casual look pair it with flat sandals a fitted vest and silk scarf.
Here are two pictures from ASOS fashion online of Peg-leg trousers looking stylish
4. Turtlenecks
The last time I wore a Turtleneck vanilla ice was still cool! They have been out of fashion for quite some time but still loved by many wearers. It is a great basic item for keeping warm in the winter layered with a woolen jersey or even under a dress. It is so easy to slip on in the morning when you not sure what you gonna put on.
Here are a few ideas of layering a turtleneck
5. Maxi dress
Maxi dresses are still gonna be a fashion trend for winter 2011. You can wear your summer maxi all year through! Pair it with flat boots, a woolen cardi and skinny belt on the hip or wear it with buckle boots, scarf and fitted boyfriend blazer. It can also be worn into the evening with a pair of smart heels.
A few ideas on how to wear your maxi in winter 2011.
If you haven’t entered the competition yet, do so now!

Thank you!
Where can you buy the maxi dresses in cape town?
My favourite thing about winter is how everyone is dressed so glamorously in snazzy coats, boots, scarves and esp. gloves. I love admiring people walking by and noticing how some people even walk differently when wearing a beautiful coat and not to mention a pair of killer boots. I guess people do feel glamorous when dressing up for winter and it shows in their composure and the way they carry themselves.
Do you have any more suggestions on how to wear the peg-leg trousers?
having to dress up and go crazy with all the best styles!!!!
You can buy the maxi dress at Rhubarb Room or Nap.

I am in love with the fashion trends of winter 2011. All the clothes in this post are so pretty and trendy. I really like the peg leg trouser which can give the stylish look if paired with heels. I am very thankful to the author for sharing these coolest things.
Turtlenecks are back, and the peg trousers are the coolest. I love your list. I totally agree with it.
I agree….. We should wear turtlenecks to aid in the layered look. Some people prefer this fashion, and turtlenecks contribute to that. They can be worn under other shirts, sweatshirts and sweaters.
